Therapy Intensives
Starting in January 2027, I will be shifting my practice away from a traditional long-term outpatient model and will begin offering 6 week “Therapy Intensives” to motivated children, teens, and adults.
-
Over my past 15 years as a psychiatrist, I’ve loved the long term work I’ve done with patients, but I have also come to recognize that many peoples’ symptoms can improve much faster when they are addressed in a structured way. Motivation and focus can be easier to maintain during shorter courses of treatment, and many of our most effective treatments lend themselves well to longer and/or more frequent sessions over a briefer period of time. As I’ve continued to train in and practice structured therapies over the years, I’ve become increasingly impressed with the difference they can make.
My goal is to offer highly personalized, structured care that will create change quickly and effectively. I want you to leave every session feeling that it was time well spent and to end your six weeks with me seeing and feeling a noticeable difference!
-
Every session will be tailored to you, highlighting applicable exercises and skills and pivoting when indicated. Unlike a self-help book or AI chatbot, I have years of experience tailoring care to individual patients (not to mention a warm smile, a sense of humor, and lots of ways to keep patients engaged, motivated, and accountable to themselves). I also have the full foundational knowledge of 4 years of medical school, 3 years of adult psychiatry residency, and 2 years of child and adolescent fellowship (plus hundreds of hours of continuing education), so I can provide you with the medical and psychological context for what we’re discussing.
-
You have a specific symptom or issue that you’re ready to move past.
Traditional psychotherapy hasn’t moved the needle enough.
You’re a goal-oriented person who doesn’t mind a little “homework” (usually 5-15 minutes between sessions), when indicated.
You’d like a more intense approach to therapy, but don’t qualify for or would prefer not to do an intensive outpatient program.

A detailed intake that includes standard assessments (this will also be our way of tracking your progress!) and a thorough discussion of your treatment plan.
Up to 16 hours of focused, individualized care, spread over 6 weeks. This could look like anything from a half day session once a week to 20 minute sessions, five times a week. In specific circumstances, we may choose to condense our treatment to fit into as little as one week (schedules permitting).
Personalized workbooks and other reference materials, when indicated, which will be yours to keep.
Support via email, text, and portal messaging within 24 business hours of receipt.
Session summaries with tips, reminders, and “homework” assignments sent after every visit.
Treatment summaries upon request, and collaboration with therapists and/or psychiatrists seen before and/or after our time together.
Completion of all forms, school excuses, letters and other appropriate documents directly related to your care.
An informal phone check-in in the month after “graduating” (optional).

All patients must have a 15 minute screening call with me to ensure that a Therapy Intensive is appropriate and that my practice is a good fit (no cost).
For patients who qualify, I will then ask for prepayment for the 90 min intake session ($500) to secure your appointment time.
During that intake, we will map out your treatment plan and schedule your sessions over the six weeks. I will provide a cost estimate for our time together that is based on my hourly rate ($300/session). You can expect the total program cost to be between $3000-5000 (this includes the intake fee and all of the time outside of our sessions that will be dedicated to your care).
A valid credit card on file is required of all patients; my default is to charge your card weekly in advance of your scheduled appointments, but I will offer a discount of 5% if the total cost of your plan is paid up front.
If you decide not to move forward after the intake, there is no further financial obligation to me, but your chart will be closed and the intake fee will not be refunded. In the rare circumstance that I decide treatment cannot move forward after the intake, I will refund the intake fee.
There are no refunds once your program has begun, but I am always happy to hear your feedback and adapt our approach, if needed!
I can provide you with superbills to submit to your insurance, if you have a PPO or equivalent plan. However, please be aware that insurance companies may limit reimbursement to what they would normally pay for a conventional weekly psychiatry session.

All patients must have a 15 minute screening call with me to ensure that a therapy intensive is appropriate and that my practice is a good fit (no cost).
For patients who qualify, I will then ask for a credit card on file to secure your intake and planning sessions (two 45 minute sessions, ideally on subsequent days to get the ball rolling quickly).
During the second/planning session, we will map out your treatment and schedule your sessions over the six weeks. I am happy to submit claims for each individual session that you have with me; however, know that the maximum session time I can bill for is an hour, so you will not be eligible for extended time sessions if you’re using insurance.
While I hope this does not occur, BCBS may deny claims they feel are excessively frequent. Please remember that patients are responsible for full payment of any denied claims at my usual cash rate.
-
I will do my best to accommodate rescheduling requests sent >24 hours in advance so that we can finish our work in the six week time frame, as planned. All reschedules will need to happen within your 6 week block of time. Cancellations within 24 hours or no shows will incur my usual $100 fee, except in the case of a true emergency. I am happy to switch your session to telehealth if you are ill or otherwise unable to come into the office, but illness is not inherently an emergency.
-
Absolutely! If you would like me to make recommendations and adjustments to your medications while we work together, I am more than happy to do so. Please keep in mind that you may need to have another doctor lined up to continue your medications after our time together is over as there may not be space to continue on in my regular medication management clinic.
-
Hopefully, you’ll be feeling much better! That said, many patients may want or need ongoing care. When clinically appropriate, Therapy Intensive patients may be able to transition into my regular outpatient clinic. However, acceptance will also depend on how full that clinic is at the time of a person’s “graduation.” When my outpatient practice is not an option, I will do my best to make individualized recommendations and facilitate a warm handoff.

Don’t worry! My current outpatients will all have the option of continuing in their usual care with me. That said, please anticipate there may be additional limitations to my availability, particularly during the times between Therapy Intensive sessions (the schedule is outlined above). Any current patient who is interested in doing a therapy intensive is welcome to discuss it with me at our next session!
